Men need to know that: it is okay not to be okay. It is acceptable for men to have mental issues and strong, emotional feelings. Men are only human and I feel bad that they think that they are weak. It is okay to cry. It is okay to seek help.
Men deserve a better life too.
Men Please Get Help! You are worth it.
Boys and men with mental health problems? Right on, Shakespeare! (Or, write on, Shakespeare.) Mental illness is no respecter of gender, age, or any other categories we choose. We are all vulnerable.
ReplyDeleteAnd we all get by with a little help from our friends. Saying "Do you want to talk about it?" and then sitting and listening is the best gift you can give a struggling friend. What you hear will not likely terrify you; it may break your heart.
Thanks for being gutsy and raising this important issue, Jamie!

ReplyDeleteHey Jamie. I would have never THOUGHT to blog about this but it needs attention as males really suffer from lack of just that in the mental health field. Our socialization of boys and men that they need to pick themselves up and be invulnerable keeps them from seeking help. This was a wise piece...thanks
