Today was a Bad Day!

I come across this blog and it seems fitting since it chooses to deal with different aspects of depression.  The link is below.

This is how my day went:

I had to rush my 16 year daughter to the ER this morning.
She was fighting with her boyfriend before school and decided
to take 30 or more antidepressants in order to kill herself.
She begged me to let her die. But that was not how my day
or hers was going to end.  So her boyfriend carried her to the car
and off we went to the hospital.

Luckily, her body was starting to already reject the pills as I was
driving her to the ER.  I had to pull over off the highway in order for
her to vomit several times.  It was a long morning and afternoon.
It seems the some of the medical staff were insensitive and uncaring.
Soon her family doctor admitted her for 24 hour observation.  She was also
evaluated by the a Behavioral Specialist this afternoon.

So now it is 12:24pm and I am laying beside her in a recliner in the Intensive Care Unit.  The Behavioral Specialist decided that my daughter was only acting on impulse and had never intended to kill herself but I cannot help but to think "What if?"  She, too, as well as I, suffer from major depressive disorder.  The only difference between us is that I have learned to deal with it, and she has not.  There is a light at the end of the darkness.  I know that she is strong enough to live this life she just has to have faith, strength, and the confidence in herself to want to help herself.  Now I feel like she does.  She has plans for the future, wants to change her life for the better, knows she is worthy of a good life.  The hard work began today!

I see lots of counseling for her in the near future and lots of family counseling in the not so near future.  Family counseling will start when she gets stabilized on her medications and is seeing a therapist and psychiatrist regularly.

Today was a scary day! One where I could have lost my only child.  I am so proud of her, no matter what, but I know that she may finally be on the right track to helping herself get better, to learning new coping skills, and to living a life that she is worth living.

Stay Strong Jalaine, we CAN get through this!

If you or someone you know needs help, get help now!  The help is everywhere if you want and need it...Don't wait, do it now!  Mental Disorders are an illness.  You have done nothing wrong.  Get Well!

The link below is a good resource I came across today.  Check it out if you need too!

    2. I have noticed a lot of parallels between us Jamie, I think that is why I find your story so inspiring.
At times like this I remember the saying "It is always darkest before the dawn" I hope your daughters dawn is coming soon.
